The International Kootenay Lake Board of Control has declared the commencement of Spring Rise for Kootenay Lake at 12:00 PST on April 20, 2012. During spring rise, Kootenay Lake water levels are subject to sudden, large increases. During this time, lake inflow is from local rivers and streams that are not controlled by FortisBC. On May 15th the average daily discharge from the Brilliant hydro plant at Castlegar was 62,380 cfs (cubic feet per second). The Kootenay Lake discharge was 52,500 cfs and Kootenay Lake inflows were 69,100 cfs. As of 07:00 am May 16th the current Queen's Bay elevation is 1746.77 and the Nelson elevation is 1745.01. Kootenay Lake forecast for the period of May 16th to May 25th is up 24 inches.
